WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ASSESSMENTS?

Each unit of work has a multiple choice assessment allowing pupils to demonstrate their understanding of each learning objective covered.

WHAT ARE THE ASSESSMENTS?

The assessments are in a spreadsheet format providing a range of questions in-line with the objectives taught in each unit of work. The questions cover all the learning objectives taught across each unit, and will provide an individual and class profile displaying areas of strength and development. The assessment process is automated, and will require no intervention from the teacher. Each objective is cross-referenced with APP documentation, providing effective, efficient evidence for APP.

HOW DO I DOWNLOAD THE ASSESSMENT FILES?

1.) To download a copy of the assessments, click on the link above and save the zip folder to a destination of your choice.

2.) Once the zip folder has been downloaded, right click on the saved folder and extract the zip folder to a destination of your choice again - your desktop is recommended.

3.) The teach-maths pupil assessment folder needs to be copied into a shared area on your school network allowing access for all pupils and teaching staff.

**NOTE: The folder MUST be copied in it's original structure, and not changed in any way. The Pupil Tests folder must be given full read and write access for all pupils allowing pupils to save their answers.**  Your school's technical support staff can complete step 3 for you.

Your assessment files and folder are now in place and ready to use.

HOW DO I USE THE ASSESSMENT TESTS?

Provide each pupil with a pupil number and record this information for future reference.

Ask the pupils to open the Excel spreadsheet referencing the individual pupil number just issued in the teach-maths pupil assessment/Pupil Tests folder now on the school network. It is important that pupils open the correct Excel file, ensuring 2 pupils do not open the same file.

Once all pupils have opened the correct pupil assessment sheets, pupils should ensure the correct unit of work is selected using the tabs at the bottom of the page, e.g. Year 3A - Unit 1 for the first unit of work. Pupils need to complete their names and name of school in the grey boxes provided on the Welcome page. This information is automatically cascaded onto all the other tests across all four year groups.

Pupils are to read the questions carefully, and select the best answer from the list provided. Pupils should enter either a, b, c or d in the red box for each question (answers are not case sensitive). If the pupils write their answers anywhere else, their responses will not be recorded.

There is no time limit on the assessments, but 10-15 minutes should be sufficient for each unit of work. A piece of scrap paper should also be provided to each pupil to calculate their answers.  Please note a small number of questions in the assessments require a calculator. This should be administered by the teacher accordingly.

Once the pupils have completed their assessments, ask them to click on the save icon at the top of the page and close Excel.

HOW DO I ANALYSE THE ASSESSMENT RESULTS?

Once the pupils have completed, saved and closed their excel spreadsheets, the teacher can look through the results and identify;

To view  the collation of pupil results open the teach-maths pupil assessment/pupil assessment overview.xls  spreadsheet. Excel may request if you require macros to be enabled - you must select YES. The first time the file is run, it will ask to update the links - click UPDATE. Select the required year group, and assessment unit which automatically populates all the names and responses of the pupils.

The green boxes indicate a correct response, and where an incorrect response has been entered, the box displays the response entered allowing you to identify any common misconceptions. If a box remains white, no response has been entered.

Each question cross references the year's objective I.D., the correct answer and national curriculum level. These results can help identify the areas listed above, and provide a valuable identifier for future teaching and learning.

Further analysis can be made by gender by manually entering the pupil's gender in the overview sheet.

Each objective is cross-referenced with APP documentation, providing effective, efficient evidence for APP.
