Each year group’s scheme of work is split across 5 blocks of work then sub-divided into 3 units of work (3 terms).

The order and format of the scheme is flexible but has been designed to follow the format listed below.

All resources are available from the navigation bar at the top of the page.

SUPPORT SCHEME OF WORK

Start Of Unit

1

Pupil

Self-Evaluation (Part 1)

At the beginning of each unit of work provide each pupil with a copy of the two pupil self evaluation records.  Ask the pupils to complete the records under the 'before' heading. The records provide an opportunity for the pupils to evaluate their own understanding of past and upcoming learning objectives.  This also allows the teacher to plan the unit of work according to the needs of the pupils.

2

Teacher

Planning

Teach-maths.co.uk provides a fully on-line scheme of work covering all learning objectives in years 3, 4, 5 and 6.  Each block of work has been subdivided into 3 units according to the revised key stage 2 framework. Teachers have numerous resources available for effective planning including; assessment for learning opportunities, differentiation through extension and support learning objectives and associated resources, referenced past SATs questions, links to intervention materials.  Teachers also have the opportunity to download planning sheets for each learning objective, which can be tailored electronically to the needs of  the pupils.

3

Lesson

Evaluation

At the end of each lesson, establish the pupil's understanding of the learning objective. An effective method for recording this data can be the use of traffic lights. What number or percentage of pupils had a sound understanding (green), inconsistent understanding (amber), and little understanding (red). This information can be recorded in the KS2 Objective Record Sheet. This maintains an historical record of the year's learning, informing future planning to best meet the pupil's needs. If pupil understanding is sound, the objective can be removed from future units of work, again outlining the scheme of work's flexibility.

Teaching and

Learning Forum

One area of teaching which is notoriously difficult to administer effectively, is the sharing of good practice with others. We all have great ideas, resources, web links, tips, etc , but rarely have the opportunity to pass them on for the benefit of others.  These resources and ideas can now be pooled together under a specific learning objective in the teach-maths.co.uk teaching and learning forum.  This solves the difficulty of sharing good practice, and saves teachers around the U.K. hours of planning and research time. The more information we can pool on the forum, the more effective it becomes.  Use the navigation bar at the top of the page to access the forum.

5

Pupil

Self-Evaluation (Part 2)

At the end of each unit of work the pupils should revisit their records from the beginning of the unit, and self evaluate their understanding of each learning objective and key word.  The pupils should complete their evaluation under the 'after' heading. This will illustrate key areas of understanding and areas for future attention.

6

Pupil

Assessment

At the completion of a unit of work, the pupils will need to complete a computer based assessment. The multiple choice assessment allows pupils to answer questions in-line with the learning objectives taught.  At the end of the assessment, all the pupil's results are collated, outlining each pupil's performance. The assessment automatically highlights any correct responses, as well as listing those that are incorrect. The assessment is fully automated allowing the teacher to analyse individual and class trends to inform future planning.

7

Pupil

Projects

Throughout the year pupils can complete up to 3 different cross-curricular projects. The projects are designed to challenging, engaging, and fun.  The pupil projects provide an opportunity for pupils to experience the use of mathematics in other areas of the curriculum, and enhance its relevance and importance through a wide range of functional skills.

End Of Unit

The following resources should be used throughout each unit of work.

Intervention /

APP

In support of APP and for use as intervention materials, teach-maths.co.uk has developed level specific intervention materials for levels 2-8.  Provide the worksheets weekly according the current working level of the pupils.  The worksheets will provide the opportunity for pupils to fill any gaps in their knowledge specific to a NC level.
